Fresh Air, Fresh Content: Spring Video Tips for Financial Advisors

An advisor asked me last week, “Is it okay to record videos in the woods?”

He loves being outside and was wondering if it would be “professional enough” to step out of the office and hit record surrounded by trees and birds instead of bookshelves and ring lights.

To that, I say: YES. Absolutely. 100%.

In fact, I encourage it.

Your Environment Tells a Story—So Let It

Video is one of the best tools you have to connect with your existing and ideal clients.

But that connection doesn’t come from having a perfectly staged background. It comes from sharing things that shows us who you are.

If you love being in the woods, bring us with you.

If you’re a weekend cyclist, record a quick message post-ride.

If you’re in the middle of a hiking trip or standing next to your airplane before a flight—let us in.

That’s exactly what I did over the weekend. I recorded a quick video from the cockpit of our new airplane—my first flight in a minute. Thankfully, I had my husband there helping to reactivate my pilot brain and showing me the ropes with all the way nicer avionics than we had in our last plane!

Authenticity Beats Perfection

“Authenticity” can feel like a buzzword, but think about it this way – we want to see you show up on camera exactly as you’d show up to a BBQ, or client or networking event.

You don’t need a studio setup or a pristine backdrop to create content your audience will care about.

What you do need is:
✅ A clear message
✅ A glimpse of your personality (whatever that is!)
✅ The confidence to show up as yourself (this takes time – and PRACTICE – lots of practice)

When you show us where you are, what you’re doing, and what lights you up—your ideal clients notice.

And if you can tie that to their world? Even better.

Ready to Try It?

We’re officially in Spring and hopefully, the sun is shining where you are, so take advantage and:
➡️ Take your phone.
➡️ Go outside.
➡️ Record a short, simple video.

Talk to your audience like you’re having a casual conversation. Let them see who you are beyond the desk.

Because that’s what builds trust. And trust is what grows your business.

And if you’re not ready to send it to them yet, that’s OK. Send it to a friend, spouse, parent or colleague.
